Well I have just arrived home from sitting in my 2001 Boxster S as it was towed to the garage.

I arrived home from the gym parked the car up and the water check symbol lit up. I didnt think too much of it until I opened the car door to the sound of water gushing from the underside of the car. I looked under to see water flowing out as if from a tap, the water was a sort of green colour so I figured it was coolant. Anyway, Porsche said it sounds like my water pump has gone. The car had been driving beautifully and I was a happy man!

Currently sat here awaiting the phone call from the garage with the damage report.

Not an ideal start to my Porsche ownership but I am working on staying positive! As I was being towed to the garage a group of kids pointed at my car and said 'wow, how cool is that car'. LOL

At least no harm done; water pumps are effectively wear items. What's the mileage?

41, 000 on the clock. Still not heard back from garage. I am hoping thats good news cus they would phone me if something seriousley wrong. Gonna give them a bell now.

I am just extra nervous cus its so early in my ownership. Will post the results of mechanics findings!

41k suggests the water pump has an inherent manufacturing/design fault; they normally start to weep out of their bearing at 80-100k plus miles, this can sometimes be a trickle not a gush. Otherwise gaskets etc can go, but for it to gush suggests a major failure. Doubt it's from excessive wear at the relatively low mileage. Very strange!

Hose leak certainly fits better with symptoms... and much cheaper to fix

Wow, its quite a ride being a Porsche owner....kinda like an extreme sport or something, stress, anxiety, fear and ultimately (hopefully lol) the rush of going fast!

Thanks for opinions/help.

Well put , MD .. There is some roller coaster-type emotional stuff associated with Porsche ownership .. But it does I think, appeal to the adrenalin junkie in us .. Especially for me , now that I'm too old , too married (or more likely , way too lazy) to part take in anything that remotely involves getting off this chair.....
