Distance to empty ?

On the advice of this forum I try to always fill up with Shell Optimax. Having done so the distance to empty shows at around 230 - 250ish miles, however if I get stuck (theres only 1 Shell garage within 15 miles of me) and use standard unleaded the DTE shows at 300 miles or thereabouts - anyone any ideas why ?

After a Vmax day, I had a bit in the tank (red light on) and looked for a petrol station, coulndt find one, let alone a shell one. Well into the red by now, I was down to economy mode windows up, air con off gentle gently on the loud pedal, my gage has stopped moving and my trip comp was down to 1 mile..... I was on fumes.....

I sadly had to suffer being overtaken by all sort of unwashed cars and humbly had to ask direction in the middle of nowhere from a...... woman.... just made it to a pump of some liquid which worked. Oh the embarresment of a 996tt being overtaken by everything...

Sorry dont know the total miles...

I think it also depends on the mpg you have been achieving prior to filling

But whenever i fill up, i always start on 212 miles.. and then increase. Magic!
