Ladies / Gents,

I'm lusting after a C4S in Basalt Black but don't need it until the end of the year.

With private sales currently in the low 40's (eBay) and PH adverts £42-£45 for 2002 and 2003 models, does anyone think there will be any significant weakness in the market between now and December? Is December a good time to buy even?

I ask becuase the spec I want is probably quite specific, i.e. Porsche switchable exhaust, SatNav, Stability blah blah...and i've only seen a few that I really like advertised. Maybe I should just buy and be damned to get the right spec although I would hate to leave a few thousand on the table if people think that 997's coming on the market might take the edge off the C4S 996's.

- Risking the flames now - maybe i should wait and buy a turbo?

Thanks in advance
Paulo

seems like you will be in competition with me, goddam you

reckon a few more might come on the market as owners swap for their 997C4s but can;t see the value dropping like a stone (I wish)

btw if "Stability" means PSM its standard on C4S

Your profile says that your saving for a Turbo. Why did you change your mind? Cost?
I've not driven either the C4S or the Turbo. I just love the widebody.

Stability = PSM = Standard on C4S = Cool (thx didn't know)

Well, if C4S's were high 40's a year ago, and they've dropped £5K in that year;

It would be fair to assume the rate of depreciation would fall, so in the next 6 months, maybe maybe 1.5-2K off.

All agreed?

get. the. turbo.

or go the hole hog and buy a tip cab? hehe

whatever floats your boat really i guess.

if you must have a 4 its surely gotta be the turbo, and for the money your looking at youd get a turbo.

Cannot believe how much cars are falling in price. A friend was quoted 30k by a specialist dealer to buy in a mint 02 reg 996 targa tip with 33k miles good spec c16 EU import-needed new discs and pads and new tyres but that was it!

a friend of mine is thinking about selling a car exactly the spec you have described, but it is tiptronic. let me know if you're interested.

Black with black leather, switchable sports exhaust, PCM, sunroof, 03 or 53 (on a private plate), tip. Top condition, not sure of miles (around 20k i'd guess). Car is in Pimlico, he'd probably be after a very realistic number just above £40k.

that was plan A, even had a £2k deposit down on one at local OPC, then hear I am going to beceome a Dad so have been through plans B through W (everything from SUV to RS4), plan X is keep the Polo and get a second car for weekends of itch-scratching.

I won't countenance a pre-52 plate or a tip, turbo is first choice but would like to keep budget at £50k which makes a C4S a better bet. I love the turbo performance but think save some dosh and comfort myself by chanting "I prefer the looks of the C4S" (that arse!) and "the noise, the noise" (my C4S MUST have a sports exhaust)

Did you get your deposit back?
I read somewhere that there is a baby push chair that fits in the 996 C4 boot - just.

deposit back - hell yes, would not have given a non-refundable deposit - it is so the car is reserved for you whilst it is prepped

quinny zap apparently fits (Porsche do there own one but that only fits in a 2wd 911), wife has bought a different one anyway rolleyes

When you buy a 'proper porsche' you can forget depreciation like a Beemer. If that's your concern sit back and wait a year so you can buy a used cayman for £10.50

I bought my 996 C4S three months ago and could have got the higher mileage turbo for the same money but why bother? I have yet to manage to use all the horses under the bonnet as it is and personally, I think it looks better than the turbo as you don't have the rear arch air intakes ruining the body lines. (She's a lady not a tart) Mines artic silver which looks the dog proverbials when she's clean and shiney

Get the C4S not a turbo.. and get the tip, that way you'll know the ex-footie player or banker that bought it before you won't have over stressed the engine by missing gears.
