Recently traded in my non-S 997 for a lovely 997 Carrera S.

The car is amazing and I love it to bits. I commute to work through London and use the car as an everyday drive otherwise. Mixed in have been quite a few longer weekend trips on motorways, etc. Driving style is 'rapid' but not especially brutal.

After two months I checked the mpg figure as provided by the on-board computer. 16.2mpg..!! Bloody hell...!!

I did notice that my 997C2S needs filling up more regularly than my non-S did but was a little shocked at this figure - I was expecting at 18-20mpg even with my mostly city driving...

Manual. My non-S 997 was a Tip and in the last 3 months I had it the car averaged 20mpg+.

Interesting, I thought tip was part of the reason for my low consmption. 996 C4 tip here and I struggle to get 20 weeping

Have to admit that I do probably drive my manual a bit more aggressively than the Tip. Especially in London driving the Tip was so easy just to cruise around in with low rev lazy gear changes. Nice smooth easy way of getting around.

I traded to a manual to get a bit more 'involved' in the driving experience and so probably rev higher, etc. Will probably end up going back to whatever Porsche replaces the Tip system with.

Saying that I was still surprised at the mpg differences even taking into account the bigger engine and Tip vs. Manual.

Try driving it like you did your tip for one week, ie gently/smoothly and get another reading.

May be the car had not been used regularly for a while before your purchase and things are getting run in properly?

C2S - Really didn't see the point in paying the premium for the C4S when the C2S is so good.

I have the same car and have a similar driving style to you; rapid but not brutal.

Mine averages 19.5mpg

I get between 14 and 24 - had a Tubi fitted and spent a while with window down and revving hard in low gears which dropped the consumption down to 14!!! when I cruise on motorways it can return over 24

just did 2100 miles in 4 days in europe - average from autobahn blasts and cruising and a number of mountain passes in low gears was 21.9

Recently turned the aircon off on my boxster and the improvement in mpg around town is fantastic from approx 25 to 29 as read by the computer, on a run it has very little change on or off,The 997S has the extra weight in the four wheel drive system which will add to your mpg.Think yourself lucky a friend of mine has a 6 series bmw convertable that at best returns 12mpg and will not pass a petrol station.the dealer has offered him 30K for the car a drop of over 18K in a year.

I've got a manual 997 C4S that now has 4500 recorded miles; I've not reset the fuel consumption and average speed in the on-board computer and have averaged 23.3 mpg and 49 mph since taking delivery.

I am astounded that a 2006 car has such low MPG. My 1993 turbo (beast!) does around 18. Very gratifying! :-)

How are you calculating mpg, by reading the computer?

Mine is a March 05 997S. a full tank gives me approx 240 miles with normal driving. The current tank has fuelled some hi-spirited accelaration jaunts and I need to re-fuel today having only got 175 out of the full tank, the lowest ever.

Sound about right to folks?

my 3.6 997 regularly does 30+ MPG if I have the AC off. best I've had is a consistent 38MPG on the M1 being driven by my light footed girlfriend with the Cruise on - which is amazing for a Porsche ! Saying that she wasn't sticking to the speed limit, so even more impressive ! Driven 'enthusiastically' by me it dips to more like 15-19MPG.
