Gents, have at last found a 944 turbo (just sorting payment now). All is well following the inspection (apart from a few small things and leather needing some repair) but the belts i believe need changing based on time rather than miles. Last time they were done was 5 years ago (but only 16k miles). Will get them done at a specialist, but my question is should i change the water pump at the same time (it was last changed in 2001)?

cheers

I would think the water pump is fine.....but the belts needs doing immediately!

Official I believe is 48K or 4 years but most advise & go for 40K & 3 years.
Water pumps are reckoned to be every other belt change but I'd take advice from who is
doing it. Same as for the idler pulleys etc.

cheers guys. spoke to specialist im probably going to use, and he advised to do it as the new (more taut?) belts might strain an old water pump and you might be faced with changing the pump soon after anyway. Regardless im thinking of playing safe and getting the lot done (poor wallet!) for peace of mind. Car had an oil service in march, so not sure if i should treat it to a full service all at the same time. Big bill methinks!

I would agree on the belts, not so sure on the water pump. It is five years old but if it has only covered 16k miles then I'd leave it until the next belt change. It has no rubber perishable parts like the five year old belts do. If the car had an oil change in March then it is due a full service in September. Turbos should have a full service every year and an oil change six monthly.

Just do the lot.....you would be so upset if it gave any problems in the near future...

If it was mine id do it.

Im a specialist so my advice as a garage to customer would be it is false economy not to do it..

But its just advice its upto you if you take it.

Thanks
