I've recently been rather smug that I have a 993 with no heater/aircon problems. My punishment for this has been a 3 hour journey today with max heat pouring out of the drivers dashboard air vents, more annoyingly the passenger vents were blowing cold, although I'm not sure it was being fully chilled. I more or less permanently have the aircon on and until today all was working correctly. Turning on the heat this morning seems to have caused the problem. I'm pretty ignorant about the workings of the heating system aside from knowing it's pretty complicated and would appreciate any suggestions. Cheers

I'm not an expert, but a similar thing happened to me and it was down to a little motor.
In the outside corner of the footwell on the left and right of the car, there's a little panel. If you remove this on the offending side (2 screws I think), you find a big tube that brings hot air up from the back of the car towards the dash. There's a big black valve with a little motor on top. If you disconnect one side of the tube from the valve, you can adjust the heating and see whether the valve works. If not, its either stuck or the little motor has siezed (or there's something wrong with the controller itself). You can remove the little motor with another 3 screws and then just push the valve shut (with your finger) and connect everything back up for a quick fix to get rid of the heat. If the motor still doesn't work when disconnected from the valve (but still connected to the wires), you can order a new one from Porsche (I think that it was about £70).
It was an easy DIY to fix mine, but yours could be a different problem. Hope this helps
Steve
