Katherine Legge

I was watching it on TV as it happened and felt physically sick. That's probably the worst racing accident I've seen. To see her walk away from that one was quite amazing. She's one tough cookie. Let's hope she gets back into a car a.s.a.p. Crashing at 180mph has got to freak you out even if you're not physically hurt.
She was doing bloody well as well - running 6th with only 6 laps to go.

It was a big crash but the car did it's job well in that all the external bits fell off to help absorb the energy. She was very lucky to get away with just bruised knees.
This is from the teams's press release:-
"I am a bit shaken, but I'm okay--as you can see," she said. "All my bits are intact, so that just goes to show how strong Champ cars are. It was a big impact, but hopefully everything will be fine for the next race at Surfers Paradise."
Legge went on to say, "I don't think you are really aware of what is going on when you have a situation like I had. All of a sudden the car just sped up and hit the wall. Then I see the ground and there is dirt coming into the cockpit--and I see the fence--honestly you are thinking what is going to happen next. I think I saw parts breaking off all around me. And I think I saw the engine split away because the thing I was thinking about the most was that the car was going to catch fire, which it did. Then when the engine went away and I thought okay that's good. To be honest I think I had my eyes closed for lots of it, but it is a bit scary."
Legge concluded by saying, "The only problem I am having now is I banged by knee a little bit against the bulkhead. It is just a bit of bruising which won't look to attractive in my dress at the Atlantic's banquet tonight."
Note: Following her crash safety officials reported that Legge was "awake, alert and had no complaints." She was held for observation for approximately half an hour. Upon arrival at the Champ Car medical unit she was asked if she wanted anything to which see responded, "Just a cup of tea."
Good one Kath!

Haven't tried any of them so don't know if they work.

Yes! what a crash! It was on GMTV and then Katherine was interviewed from the state's,
It brought a tear to my eye because it was the way she talked about it! as if it was no problem but a shame because the team dressed the car up in pink for cancer research and then yes as said here she was in sixth and then the engine blow-up causeing the crash! then she said tell my dad iam alright while upside down because i know he will be worrying! then she talked about finished the session sharing the spare car! but it was said al calm and casual and most of all talking in the middle of the night looking so beautiful with it!
It was a good job the parts came off and the car continued to roll and slow down stopped most the the abruped focuses!
Good on you Katherine Ill be a close fan now!
