He seems much better than James Allan.

My long dead pet guinea pig would be better than James Allen.

I've always thought that Edwards should have got the job when Murray retired.

Good point, in fact anyone from the Eurosport team would do a much better job than the 'cock'

Ben used to do the Eurosport F1 commentary with John Watson, taking it over from Allard Kalf. Then Eurosport lost their F1 deal at the same time ITV took over from the BBC.

There's no question mark after the thread title, so is this wishful thinking or do you know something that the rest of us don't?

He was a very promising Formula Ford driver at one time, before the money ran out, so he does have an idea what he's talking about

they had charisma, BE does not (have a lot going for him, other than the fact that he is a good commentator)

Not so sure that BE lacks charisma. That's a very difficult thing to define - and he certainly has as no less charisma than Mr Allen.

Charisma tends to build up over time. Murray acquired it as much for his gaffs and infectious enthusiasm, coupled with a sense of nostalgia from the viewers. When Murray was commentating in his 30s he was just looked on as just another commentator.

Did Ben ever do FFord? I remember watching him race in FFirst (have you ever driven one of those things?...transverse engine out back and what felt like a relatively high centre of gravity, left hand gearchange too - very odd...).
