Question for all you Bristolians out there.

Currently living in Glos and usually go into Bristol via the A46 -> M4 -> M32. This seems OK at non-rush hour times, even considering the huge works going on in Broadmead at the moment.

However, to get to work for 9am I'm imagining would be a bit busier. Question is, is there a better way than this to get to Whiteladies Road, avoiding Broadmead? Is it feasible to leave the M32 and go through Filton (?) or would this be a nightmare too? Any other suggestions?

I'd personally come off at cribbs, down through shirehampton area and across the downs onto whiteladies.

Or go up the portway, up through shirehampton and across the downs...

Maybe further, but easier, and prettier to look at

100% not recommended to go West from M32 J1 anywhere near the rush hour.
UWE and Abbey Wood gridlock the whole neighbourhood.

I'd go along with Neil on this one.

I live in Sadley Broke and would always go via Cribbs, through Westbury/Shirehampton up to the Downs, the M32 has always been a bag of pants at rush hour.

Other options:

1. Leave the M5 at the A38 but then you have to contend with RR/BAe traffic
2. Get on the M32 and then straight off again and up past UWE, but then you get the UWE/Abbey Wood traffic plus the ring road is roadworked to hell and back at the moment.

So, I'd concur with the above and come off at Cribbs (J17) and follow in through Westbury and over the Downs.

Whereabouts on Whiteladies are you?

Right down at the bottom of the hill, the opposite end to the downs.

Probably better off skipping past Blackboy Hill / Whiteladies Road and using Pembroke Road to get to the bottom, then - can save a good few minutes if you're in a hurry.
