Can a 1971 911S really be worth this much?

I think 2.4Ss, if exceptional, are potentially £40k +, but £50k for a 2.2 seems pretty unlikely.

Probably £10k too much even if its perfect, however try producing a perfect one , likely to be IRO £50k if its matching numbers ,half decent history , original spec no mods and done by reputable company with the right experience
2.4 s ,have been sold for over £50 in the last year .............

No, pre-impact 911S are getting overheated IMO and are, at best, peaking. Some of this, I have no doubt, is down to "speculative" pricing on the part of some dealers. This car has been for sale for quite a long time with one dealer. Interestingly and contra the generally accepted laws of supply and demand it has increased in price by over £12K during this period!

There are some chancers (dealers mainly) who think that they can push the price of good pre impacts up off the back of the inexorable rise of the 2.7RS. But I know (from personal experience) that a pre impact can cost £25k to restore properly and as such a good restored car (2.2e/s 2.4e/s) ought to be above £20k. But £50k?...for a dogleg 2.2s - no way!

I had one of them from the classic car club for a few days. Was a bloody great car (once it had warmed up for half an hour). Exactly the same power and weight, I believe, as my old Integra type R, 190bhp / 1100kg.
Nice purple colour with a burberry check interior too.
Be surprised if it was much over £15k-£17k (this was 3-4 yers ago), don't think any of their cars were worth more than that.
I'll see if I can post some pics. It is now deceased Matt from CCC binned it.

Doesnt make it right but i started to looking to buy a 2.4 s in 2002/3 could have had some nice'looking 'cars at £25/35 ..............then started looking into them closely and they all needed abt £10k straight away...then thoughtbuy a cheaper one and work though it so u know what ur ending up with..................since then they ve just roared away pricewise , frightening............over 3 years pretty much doubled IMO

Yes, it does look significantly over-priced.

However, as Porsche becomes an ever bigger, corporate driven, mainstream producer, the real gems from the past are becoming increasingly sought after.

Make no mistake, the best examples, properly set up and in fine fettle, are an absolute joy to thread down a sinuous A or B road - amazing fun, rewarding dynamics and all at semi-sensible speeds.

£40k might seem expensive, but some people drop that amount over a few years depreciation on a 996/997 TT

Good game , sold my last S in '78 for £6250 it was mint ............but cars of this build era do deteriorate ............20 years on we have £50k cars of this type..........a lot of the RECENT inflation definitely dragged up by the iconic RS DONT U THINK ?
In reality there isnt that much diff on paper and real performance between a 2.4s and and rs ,JUST THE CURRENT PRICE!

Totally agree, S prices dragged up by RS and also eligibility for historic competition.

I really like these early cars, but at current prices, from an investment point of view I think the money would be better spent on a 964/93 RS or 3.2 clubsport.

Or a non-S car from the same era, which properly set-up as someone said is just as much fun to drive down a country road (or around town in the wet...)

There is such a huge difference again between S and non-S cars that just beggars belief for the sake of a maximum of 50 hp...

You weren't driving down the Finchley Road this morning about 45 mins ago were you Agent? There was a beautiful tangerine coloured 2.4S RHD going into town as I came out - looked amazing and made me wish I'd brought the 911 in instead of the BMW this morning (although looking at the colour of the skys I think I'll be better in the BM to go up to Birmingham this afternoon...)

I think I've seen this car a couple of times near St Pauls (there can't be too many orange 2.4Ss in Central London). Sounds nice too. thumbup

Must be him!! Was he getting arrested by a policeman for talking to a man in Newcastle on a mobile phone in traffic.....then asking the policeman, "are you married"?
