White. The new silver/black?

"The return of white" has been a popular thread topic for about a year now - but try selling a white car (especially to the trade) and you'll find it's just a myth.
Umm maybe.. but I saw a Cayman S in white with black wheels on an OPC site and really liked it.
Thought, as it was white, it might have been there when I was ready to change in a few months time.
It sold two weeks later.
white looks crap on most cars, its fashionable now but won't last both IMHO
if you like it go for it, although I don;t like it I am glad others do as it makes a change from silver at least
looks fine on more extreme Porsche versions like GT3 or RS because they are pseudo-race cars and can carry it off (but the orange black or viper look infinitely better)

It depends on the car, i'm biased as i own a white 911 cab but it suits the car of that period, as does Red and Black. All sports cars look good in these bold colours, but big Exec saloons etc couldn't carry it off.
But you have to say there are more and more White cars cropping up especially from Germany (VW/AUDI and BM are getting popular in White)
However my new A4 S Line has been ordered in Dark Metallic Grey...........how boring!

It's the iPod effect.
Remember when computers used to be Beige, and Porsches were Silver?

Eh? I have 8 Apple computers here in front of me... and they are all Silver. And my iPods are black and silver.
Thank beige cars never became popular, though - I learnt to handbrake turn, sorry, drive in a beige Metro. Fun to throw about but an utterly foul colour. No idea why the original owner specified beige.

But before Hitler changed the national racing color to silver
Hitler had nothing to do with it - it was the entry of a number of Gullwing Merc 300SL's in a motor race in the 50's (I think it was Le Mans) which started the trend. They were painted black, and were found to be around 2kg heavier than the maximum permitted weight for vehicles entered in the race. They only thing that could be removed from the cars at the last minute was their paint, which was duly done, and replaced with a thin layer of aluminium paint to protect from rust. They did very well, and many other German race teams adopted aluminium or silver as their colour as a result. The rest, as they say, is history.
As you were, chaps.
