Bangers world final this weekend

The Americans may have the baseball sewn up - we have banger racing!

This Sunday (12 November) will see Wimbledon Stadium in South West London host the 2006 Championship of the World!

The 2006 World Championship is open to unlimited over 1800cc Bangers, allowing drivers to use the biggest and most powerful cars they can find. Don't be surprised to see hearses, US muscle or just venerable old Granadas (if there are any left!).

Expect some huge smashes and a wonderful aroma of burning rubber as dozens of cars take to the track..

The Banger World Final sells out every year and anyone wishing to attend is advised to arrive at Wimbledon Stadium as early as possible. Doors open at 3pm, with pre-race entertainment at 3.30 and racing starting promptly at 5pm.

The Americans don't really have baseball sewn up, the most recent World Baseball Classic (the nearest thing to a world cup) was won by Japan, who beat Cuba in the final.

I used to do banger racing and ministocks years ago. Unfortunaely roll cages and harnesses don't stop the body from taking a good beating. Bloody dangerous sport and i wouldn't do it again. Great spectacle though and i love watching!!

Best banger car ever....Triumph 2.5 Pi, almost indestructable!!

Can't make it this year but it's an absolute cracker. Figure of eight, excellent car control and some big impacts. Big van bangers there is a good watch too.
I'm pretty sure it's been and gone but Firecracker at Essex arena see's some top cars being mercilessly finished off.

I'll be at this watching from the bar.

Best Banger I have to say Toyota Crown.

Or if your towing a Caravan on the 8 a Granada (at Wimbledon).

Best Racing year's of my life.

I'm an avid fan of all this... was brought up nr Gt.Yarmouth and my old man used to take me to the local Spedeworth track at Caister to get me out of my mothers hair on a Sunday evening.... Been going on an off for about 25yrs.

Ringwood Raceway is only about 30mins drive across the Forest for me... but after many years of excellent racing this appears to have gone completely tits-up.

My only fix now is an annual pilgrimage to Ipswich for the Speed weekend.

Definitely the best motorsport for spectators!

No - Hednesford Raceway, nr Cannock was the mecca (still is I hope). Was a big fan as a kid, especially of the Hot Rod class - this was in the days of Barry Lee (351), Tom Laffey (121) etc.

But remember well the banger team racing, with the Swadlincote Yellow Devils who all had 3.5l Rovers (seems sacrilege now, but they made awesome bangers), pitted against the Nuneaton Nutters. Their star man was Brad Wilson, in what once was a PA (later PC) Cresta, although so many dents and sledgehammer repairs it was hard to tell.
Brad Wilson was ace at hooking the front wing of the Cresta into the rear wing of the car in front, semi-spinning them, and then flicking the steering in such a way as to roll the opponent out of contention - AWESOME!
