been thinking of changing the wheel on the 996tt in the new year and am seriously considering opting for replica rather then genuine porsche wheels due to the difference in price.

what are people's opinions? if i do i intend to keep the standard turbo wheels so when selling the car i could return to standard.

i've been looking at the technology II wheels which are £995.00 + VAT inc. tyres (assuming not great tyres) vs. genuine porsche ones for £1995.00 + VAT no tyres.

is it acceptable or am i just being cheap on a 50k + car.

I'd be careful about after market wheels, they are fine assuming they are made well, naturally they are cheaper for a reason. I had some Khan after markets on an old Mini Cooper S and went through 3 new rims in as many months

There is little reason to use replicas, they are heavier, softer so buckle easier and new ones are the same price as used originals.

Not sure I agree with that entirely and that's of course you know the exact history of the used originals you may buy.....!

Rick,

Its simply personal preference I think.

I have original wheels, replica wheels (not much heavier and just as strong)and non-porsche wheels. The wheels are used on road but mainly on track.

Personally I'm happy with the best looking wheels at the best price - I just make sure the exact sizes and offsets are correct!

£995 for 4 x 18" wheels and tyres seems very cheap. I'd doubt the quality or either would be upto the punishment a 996TT can dish out.

the replica and genuine wheels i quoted above are all for sale at design911. i would hope that being a porsche specialist they would offer products suitable all models.

Check that you can get the correct offsets as well - lots of the ones advertised on eBay as being Boxster fitment have incorrectoffsets for Boxsters
