The government want to introduce yet another tax and want to place tracking devices in our cars! Don't let them do it! YOU have the power to say NO!!!

I have posted this in motoring news aswell. Not sure or if it's the correct place. Thought I would post here aswell.

Am I right in thinking that a road pricing policy is independent upon the type of vehicle you drive? If so, then is this were to replace another method of taxation on the car, then that would benefit most performance car drivers wouldn't it?

i.e. taxing fuel hits us hard, as we use a lot of it. Taxing the emissions hits us, as our cars are commonly worse than euroboxes and super-minis.

IF the introduction of this tax meant the reduction in another (and I know there's no reason to think it would happen that way) then surely it's something the sports car enthusiast would support? Also, I imagine many of us are working professionals, and as such would be able to claim most expense incurred on business travel through our employer anyway.

I'm not suggesting the petition isn't a good idea, but I think we need to debate the topic a little before all supporting it.

Very good valid points. I guess the only problem is there aren't any answers at the moment. I suspect the gov will keep the tax disk, keep city congestion charges, keep petrol tax high and introduce more road tolls like the M6. Out of interest the M6 is great to use apart from the fact it is too short too much and you hit traffic as soon as you leave it.
