As part of my 968 project I am at the stage of taking out the comfort seats/ carpets etc and replaceing them with some race seats. I have looked at recaro apex's(basically the same as the profi's) These seem to be one of the few seats that will fit (I am also putting in a cage) but they lack a bit of thigh support.

Has anyone else changed the seats and if so to what
Thanks

I've got original CS seats in mine, which I find very good. There's been a few cars written off recently, so you might find a few seats about. You'll probably end up paying a similar price to new ones though.

Apparently Recaro SP-G are very similar. In fact, I think the CS seats were supplied by Recaro and whilst technically were a Porsche special order, were basically SP-Gs.

Recaro Pole position are pretty good & very comfortable for long journeys & a lot easier to get in/out of car as its a low-cut seat, doesn't quite have the side support that say an SPG gives.

If you're after an original CS seat I know of a leather covered pair that may be available.

Thanks guys, the car hopefully !!!! If I ever get the time to build it will run in either the porsche club or sprint series and do track days so probably after performance rather than long distance comfort !!! (Famous last words)

Re the leather ones probably a bit overkill and a little slippery for what I am looking for !! But thanks

I also tried the cobra suzuka which were great seats but too wide for the car a graet shame

My CS seats are leather, but there's nowhere to slip to - they hold me very sightly. I'm a fat ba5tard, but they're fine for most journeys, but I do get cramp in my right leg on any journey over a couple of hours. Still, getting out and walking about for 5 minutes is a small price to pay.

I've put Sparco Pro-2000's in my 944 turbo. Similar shape to the Recaros and bolt straight in - with the right mounts. Original Club Sport seats wont be FIA approved, so no good if you want to do a spot of racing. Also if you are buying second hand seats look for the FIA date on them, as many go out of date at the end of 2006, and you wont pass scrutineering next year.

For pictures of how they look in the car see here for a couple of pictures:

Those look pretty good, am I correct in thinking that the you have a certain number of years from the production date stamped on the seat for fia regs ? or have I got it the wrong way round ?

Very nice looking car.

I own a 968 with similar mods and similarly well documented history. Yours looks like a very good buy for someone.

The seat will have a date stamped on the side of it, 2006, 2007 etc. It shouldnt be used in competition after that date. Its the same with harnesses. I think the rules changed in 2005 or 2006 and so there are a lot of second-hand seats about that are not in-date. There are also pattern seats that appear on e-bay fairly cheaply. These are not FIA stamped and are only really good for road use.

Thanks for the comments on the car.

Cheers

Unless you are very slim you wouldnt slid about in the original CS seats, they are very snug fit.

Hi
I've just had Recaro Apex fitted as driver seat in my track biased 924s.
Plus points:
1) Excellent all round clearance & fit, incl handbrake
2) V. comfortable even for extended trips
3) Light 6.5 kg is pretty good for non-carbon

Minus points:
1) Quite high edge near thigh (compare to Pole position!) which means getting in in e.g. garage is a palaver
2) Unlike SPG only available in narrow fit, so can be, er, snug.

Having sat in the apex's they seem a good fit for me (fairly slim ish !!), not too worried about getting in / out as the roll cage makes that pretty hard anyway !!

Tam where did you get your apex from / did you get a good deal ?

Re the leather ones I am sure they would be a good fit, I am pretty slim but I expect the cost may be a little prohibative if not drop me a mail as I may be interested.

Thanks

Hi
Seats supplied by Demon Tweeks (price as website www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductCategory.asp?CLS=MSPORT&GRP=M016

Got them fitted by Promotasport (highly recommended: www.promotasport.co.uk/) though they're a bit of a treck from Surrey
