I'm increasingly coming to the conclusion (as I gradually get used to the car and how it handles) that my shocks are somewhat tired. Alas, I don't have £1.5-2K to chuck at doing it "properly", especially with Christmas just round the corner, so I'm tempted....

I assume you're paying OPC rates to have them fitted? If not, have you got an indie quote for fitment?

Need to factor corner weighting and geometry set up into your pricing equation as well

Ah, DIY. If only I wasn't so hamfisted and completely inept when it comes to all things spanner-related..... biglaugh

Do you happen to know whether this is limited to OPC TV or whether I can call any OPC and get them at that price (assuming they have any in stock, of course)?

Very nice. Do you know if they are as wide as the Turbo wheels? Slim-design 993's fitted with the 18inch Turbo rims always looks like there's something wrong to me. Somehow these 18's don't look like something's wrong.

I am no expert but the offset is different, these have a nice deep dish as opposed to Turbo Twists are pretty flush on the outer rim like on my previous car

Indeed it was - a 97 manual Targa.

I love it cloud9 It's a weekend car so it's still an event every time I take it out. It's only covered 1,200 miles or so in the 2 months I've had it but I'm gradually getting used to how it feels and handles (very different to what I've been used to!) and becoming a bit more confident about pushing on. It's probably not much faster point to point than my S2000 was but it FEELS faster as a result of the extra torque.

The one lingering suspicion I have is that, at 78K miles, the suspension is need of replacement. It appears that the rear shocks have been replaced at some point in its life, judging by what the last owner was told by his indie at the last service, but it's not clear from the service history when it was done. There's nothing to suggest that the fronts have ever been done so I'm guessing that even if the rears are OK the fronts won't be.

I'd only driven a couple of 993s before buying mine (and even then only briefly) so I don't have much base to judge how it ought to feel. It does feel as if the suspension wallows over uneven ground though, and the ride can be a bit crashy if the surface is not great and the road undulating.

If money was no object, I'd swap it anyway just to be sure. Alas, with a wife who is at college and so not earning at present, it's harder than it used to be to justify spending the kind of money that a "proper" replacement would cost. Even with the cost of a full alignment afterwards, the M033 kit seems to be a reasonable solution to the problem.

My 993 had the M033 kit as an option from new and the car felt wallowy, crashy and never felt stable on high speed corners. I put this down to tired dampers as the car has done 74,000 miles.

I took it to JZM who replaced this with the H&R coilovers and the car is now much stiffer but not uncomfortable even with my 18” wheels and very confidence inspiring, perfect for weekend blasts and occasional track days. If your brakes, steering and tyres are OK then spend money on the suspension now, especially if you intend to keep your car for a while, it is such an important part of the driving experience and something you will be glad you sorted every time you go for a drive.
