Are 924's galvanised, in particular the turbo'd variants ?

Partly yes.

The body tub yes.

The front wings, front panel, doors, front valance. Only on later models, forget the year. Think it was about 84 ish, it was when the covered petrol cap came in.

Turbo I assume is same story.

But don't worry they aren't bad for rust, and whats there is usually pretty obvious.

The last thing I hope I am is an egg head and I find it much more interesting working on the actual cars than reading about them - so I could always be wrong about spec's etc - but I think that the first 924's were only galvanised in the floor pan and up to the lower sill level. Later the whole chassis was galvanised - but replacement panels are not.

Despite the lack of galvanising on probably the first couple of production years - they still had no particular corosion places (like 911's do).

It seems that any metal structure subjected to cold and damp has some places that the corrosion is attracted to and is rapid and others that last for ever - but the 924 seems to be perfectly balanced in this and only minor areas are a local problem. Ships often have a sacrificial annode fitted in one place where all the corrosion takes place and then it is replaced when neccessary.

Many many years ago I left a damaged 944 chassis in the back garden at home and in several places all the paintwork was missing leaving bright shiny galvanised metal showing. A year later (when I came to remove it) it looked almost the same and no rust!

Perhaps the worst spot is under the battery - check it out because leaks can drip on to the main fuse box area.

Expensive for a 924, but i hope its all correct and doesnt need a whole lot doing to it.

I am after an occasional friday to work, quick blast if i feel like, civilized if i dont, sort of car. always fancied a 924Turbo.

Your probably right Baz, but your deffo right on the fact they aren't prone to rust.

Good car the turbo, but then again all 924's are smashing cars for not a lot of money.
