Hi there,

Having a quick look at the classifieds and noticed that early boxster prices are now down to almost sensible levels.

Question is will a 11K boxster be a dream car or a nightmare?

This will be a second car, garaged at night and will cover about 5000-6000 miles a year.

Any advice or comments welcome.

Martin.

My Dad bought for about that for six months ago now. It had a good history and so far has been no trouble. Not very fast but the ride/handling/steering/balance are all fantastic.

Buy in complete confidence. 2.5 Boxsters are now great value (and arguably cheaper than the prices you state) and it sounds as if the one you buy will lead a charmed (easy) life. Early 2.5s still sound great and go really well (in real world terms not that different from a 2.7), with traditional excellent Porsche build quality. I say go for it, clearly a better built alternative to a TT or troublesome TVR (well Speed Six cars anyway)and relatively risk free.

Nice car handles great, sounds good, just dont expect it to blow your socks of in the power department though. Great way into modern Porsche ownership.

I've had my 1997 2.5 since last summer and I use it every day. It's been great. I personally don't expect them to lose value very rapidly once they get to the £10-11K mark. I supect values will be based more on condition for early boxsters. If you're only using it for summer fun then your money should be as safe in a Boxster as in any other car.

I must say though, if I was after a fun car for the summer only I'd seriously consider an 80s 911 3.2 Carrera or maybe a LHD 964 yum
