Hi all,

just put a nominal deposit on a 52 plate 996TT with a private seller - am overjoyed!

However, before getting carried away and paying the balance, i think i should get an inspection done just to be sure that nothing is lurking despite recent porsche services and all round a good car from condition and FPSH etc. Does that make sense or am i being overly cautious? Car drives as it should and feels tight like the good ones do.

The car is in Yorkshire near Leeds but i'm in London so not the easiest thing to arrange! Here are my options (any others?):-

111pt check at Porsche Leeds - £150+ vat
RAC check £315
independent specialist up that way (Malton???)

Porsche told me to use the RAC (!!) but I'm not convinced an RAC mechanic is gonna know the quirky bits that go wrong with these cars vs a Porky mechanic.

Car had the major spark plug service (44k miles) recently, and has had new rads at the front mid last year too.

Appreciate your help/comments
Thanks

Just going through exactly the same thing myself beer

Definately get a Porsche 111 point check (from any OPC). This will enable you to purchase the all important Manufacturer Extended Warranty. See this as a yearly cost for peace of mind.

Other warranties aren't worth the paper they're printed on. (imo.. from a nasty experience with a previous non-porsche warranty on a 964).

*RUMMAGES FOR OLD RECORD*

Go to Porsche Centre, 111 point inspection. If it passes purchase the Porsche warranty.

End of story.

Make the purchase conditional upon it passing.

If it doesn't, walk.

Whereabouts near Leeds?

If you are going to warranty the car, JCT is a no-brainer. But, is there already a warranty on it from the current owner?

If independent, you could try Strasse in Leeds or RPM in Knaresborough.

I bought my car from a private seller in Leeds ( I live in London) and had the car checked at JCT600, if you want a proper warranty it's a no brainer.

If you want it checking over and the inspection will not be relevant to the warranty give Strasse a ring on 0113 2340911

Have you not read any of the recent posts about buying a porsche!?

Its a no brainer. Go to an OPC get the 111 inspection take out the warranty.

The RAC have porsche specialists, I used one for a purchase last year in Malton also and he diagnosed everything including leaking RMS, the guy clearly knew his stuff albeit quite expensive but the check was extremely thorough, took half a day to do and you get a very detailed report covering every aspect of the car.

Speak with Ron Champion on 01780 450352, they do the most thorough Porsche inspection I have ever seen.

Yeah, but if you want the OPC warrantee, you still have to have it pass the 111pt check, no matter who else has inspected it.
