Having observed several Porsche forums from afar and made the odd posting this is where I`m at. I`ve been tracking bikes and Caterham for about five years. Now tired of trailoring the Cat` but still obsessed with track driving I need something else. Porsche may fit the bill. I can`t get too excited about driving standard 996/997 on the road and they are probably not best suited to the track. So, that leaves the GT3 type stuff. If I buy secondhand I am only interested in a low mileage/mint car. I don`t want to go for a pile of trouble so would, if necessary, pay a premium and go to an OPC. Used, mint GT3RS`s don`t seem to be around but there do seem to be mint GT3`s. The advantage of the secondhand route is clearly avoiding the depreciation. However, I could buy new. So:
1. Do I hold out for the mint GT3RS.
2. Do I get the mint GT3 now...........will I be disappointed I didn`t wait or is it almost as good.
3. Do I buy new and keep the car longer so depreciation isn`t so much of a hit. If "yes" GT3 or RS. Is the 997 better than the 996............(can of worms time I guess!!!)

I've got an Rs on order but it's a long way off, so being impatient I have been looking around. There's plenty of 996 GT3's around but very few RS's so prices are holding up very well. Having spoken with various "traders" and having posted on here there will certainly be a few 997 GT3's and RS's coming available but they will be at a premium but I now think it will be like the 997TT and the premiums will be gone by summer (I hope). Personally I couldn't wait I would have a 996RS if you can wait 6 months I think you'll get a 997 at list or if you want it now it will cost you £10000.
I'm very tempted to pay the premium and have one now but knowing that the car is likley to will drop £30k over the first 2 years gives me 40000 reasons to give it further consideration

yes I have, it is being PPi'd on thursday. My Comfort GT3 is for sale if you are interested? I live in Harrow, near to you. It has a cage, harness and Alcons and a track/fast road JZ geo set up so is perfect for track and road. I have only done 2 trackdays in it. Its done 14,000 miles but is by no means tatty, paint/interior is in great condition, alloys are new (second set).

Yep, I saw it in the classifieds. Some nice GT3`s around both private and at OPC`s. I`m going to Brands on the 5th to pick more brains and hopefully friendly GT3 pilots will take me out??!! Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
