help needed please 993 c2s or c4s...?

Hi all
Can you give me some feedback on both the 993 c2s or c4s,have looked at a few examples of each and driven both,the c2s felt more alive,but as always the 4 wheel drive might just save me from myself..if you know what i mean!
Which is the better long term bet residually,the c2s appears to have more of a following as the top normally aspirated 993...hmmmm
any thoughts gratefully appreciated and any examples spotted for sale here (up north)!,please pass on

Plenty on PH about the relative merits of 2 and 4 wheel drive. Read all about it and try them both if you must but the typical view is that unless you're a top notch driver/keen tracker you'll be unlikely to spot the difference.
On value/desireability, the C4S seems to be the daddy and from what I've seen for sale I wouldn't disagree.

The merits or otherwise of C2 vs C4 have been debated on here many times.
A point to consider is that the C4S is better equipped in terms of brakes and suspension than a C2S. So it's not just a case of 2wd or 4wd.

My advice would be to get the best one (condition) you can find for the money you want to spend.

The issue of bigger brakes is only really relevant if the driver already reaches the limit for the abs to cut in anyway and wants better feel from the brakes under such arduous conditions. Most of the owners I know would never reach that point anyway, For normal to fast road use the smaller brakes work better in emergency stops as well.
The 4 wheel drive gets better drive initially but is not as fast (too many drive train losses) and the 2 wheel drive feels nicer in slower corners.
There is more potentially to go wrong with 4 wheel drive as the cars age.
Wider S versions are difficult to tell apart but do cost more and will probably hold values better as they age.

A guy I know still managed to put a 993 C4 into a hedge, so it's still not fail safe. I'd be tempeted to go for the C2 and use it in fair weather only.

I think the 4S was an originally planned model, basically specced as well as a turbo but without the turbo motor and hollow alloys (better brakes/suspension/leather etc). The 2S was put together at the end of production to get rid of the excess widebody shells and so brakes and suspension were from the standard 2wd variant.
Agree with the drive train loss as I used to own a 4S. I think the 4S is rarer and residuals seem to be reflecting this. Either way the 993 is a great car, golden rule buy on condition. Every single model seems to generate a dicussion as to which is the best variant but the real answer is that they are all good and it depends on what floats your boat and is important to you.

Personally i'd choose (for looks) a wide body car over a narrow body equivalent, but (for driving) i'd go for a C2 or a C4S (if you're ignoring RS and Turbo variants).

C2 is better balanced on the limit than C2S and as such is (IMHO) the better driver's car.
Anyone who throws a 993 C2 off the road probably would have done the same thing if they'd been in a C4, in either case you have to get it SERIOUSLY wrong (misjudged appropriate speed for conditions).
