I love cars belching fire. The Aussie V8s as they change up, or the trail of flame a Mazda 787B leaves as it brakes into Indianopolis corner in night qualifying.

Why do some cars do it more than others?

Not quite a racing car, but we caught an old Alfa (Giulia or similar) on a night stage on a rally and everytime he lifted off/changed gear a huge flame came out of the exhaust in the middle of the back of the car.

Hiya, nice topic, and have wondered this myself from time to time.

Here is one of my faves, from the Dutch Supercar Championship that supported the Britcar last year.

The best one I have EVER seen is Stefan Johansson in qualifying at Monaco in a turbo F1 Ferrari, it would have been around 1986/87. The guy got the picture from about 15 feet away from the car, I think he was exiting Casino square at the time.

It is awesome.

The snapper was German, IIRC, something like Ranler Schlegeler (apologies if I've got that completely wrong)

If you ever get to the Goodwood Revival, watch out for the Allard painted up in USAF Startegic Air Command colours. It is a real flame spitter.
