Rowes Honda at Trispen (Truro) are holding a book launch on 1st April.

There will be 50+ cars on display that were manufactured in Cornwall over the years.

These include modern stuff like the Adrenaline Motorsport Murtaya and very rare stuff like (4 of the last 10) Hillmaster Trucks.

Thought it was worth letting all local PH'ers know.

I think the book is called 'Cornwall's Motor Industry' by Peter Tuthill.

I spoke to him last night.

There should be over 70 cars at the event. Many vintage commercial, but also around 25 sportscars including a Subaru powered Adrenaline Motorsport Murtaya (pic below)

Interesting. Years ago while at school I did my work-experience week at Steadman cars in Hayle, where they built the Steadman TS100, a rep of the old Jaguar SS100. Then there's Richard Oakes who is based in Cornwall who has designed and produced many low volume cars over the years, including some very well known stuff.

I think I'll definitely pop along to this

I am told Richard Oakes will be there, but I'm not sure he has any cars on display. He has apparently sold the Zero & Avion projects.

Not so! Cornwall has a long and varied Motoring Heritage.
The origins of the industry can be traced back to Cornish inventor Richard Trevithick and his high-pressure steam car of 1801!
A Mr. Lodge, from Newquay, pioneered and manufactured the first spark plugs.
Lodge plugs were used for many years in the motor industry for both production and racing cars.
Both Lionel Martin of Aston Martin fame and Donald Healey were Cornish.
Healey started his motor career in the county.
Cecil Kimber, the founder of the M.G. used Exmoor for testing his early prototypes.
Cornwall has even had its own Formula One race track at the old US air force base at Davidstow in the immediate post-war period.

Plenty of good history to fill a book down this way my 'ansum!

I seem to recall that there used to be a kit car manufacturer in Looe, it was not pretty though (Looe or the car).

Quite so David!

Truth be known I am jealous that I don't permanently reside in your beautiful and magical county. I may be just another grockle who only makes a twice annual pilgrimage to the land of piskies and pasties, however I am a long standing fan of Richard Oakes designs - notably Nova, Libra and more laterly the Blackjack three wheelers.

Here's to documenting Kernow's rich motoring heritage! beer

PS:- I'd order a copy but it appears I couldn't afford the postage and packing!
