The first race of the season will be the Australian GP on Sunday 18th March. Please predict the fastest lap time of the overall race, and name the driver of the fastest lap...

As a guide, the top 10 fastest laps last year were:

Kimi Räikkönen McLaren-Mercedes 1:26.045
Fernando Alonso Renault 1:26.189
Michael Schumacher Ferrari 1:27.180
Juan Pablo Montoya McLaren-Mercedes 1:27.464
Giancarlo Fisichella Renault 1:27.561
Rubens Barrichello Honda
Nick Heidfeld Sauber-BMW 1:27.7008
Jenson Button Honda 1:27.799
Mark Webber Williams-Cosworth 1:27.800
Ralf Schumacher Toyota 1:27.810

It's an internal work thing - prize is a trip to the Williams factory to watch the German GP on a big screen there

Yeh I heard they were forecast rain but the article I read said it was clearing up towards the weekend.

Hopefully Friday will be dry though so Hamilton and the other rookies can get some decent track time in during free practice

When it says fastest lap does that include qualifing or is it just in the race. I thought about this the other day when i got the season guide with the paper and it said the lap record at monza was held was held by schuey and i thought it was montoya that held it with the fastest ever lap in F1 at just over 160mph just beating Rosberg's time at silverstone in 82 i think.

Cheers

The way it says "Please predict the fastest lap time of the overall race" I assume it means the race and not qualifying.

160mph is a the average speed attained over the course of a lap, not the fastest lap time. But a bit of digging reveals that Montoya has indeed done the fastest lap time of 1m 20.264 seconds in a Williams BMW when qualifying in 2002

The official lap record for Monza is Rubens Barrichello 2004 time of 1m 21.046s in a Ferrari. I assume this has to be set in a race.

EDITED to add a bit of digging

EDIT: and here is a youtube link to the pie-eaters lap: www.youtube.com/watch?v=w__Gxmt-3PQ
