I've just been talking to a Scrutineer about the class that I want to race my Mini in at Gurston Down. He said there is a new clause in the Blue Book about modifying exisitng body panels. Now, my Mini has been totally deseamed as the seams were all rusty, will this cause me a problem running in Mod Prods? I don't want to have to re-shell or put the seams back on smash

There is nothing wrong with deseaming the car, it just makes it stiffer, I am fairly sure you won't get pulled over for it. I am sure the comment in the bluebook just means that you can't replace the floor or the majority of the shell with non-standard metal.

I think scrutineers are only generally concerned with safety of the car. You need to worry about other competitors complaining that you are breaking the rules. This will only happen if you start winning and the looser is a bad looser, or your mods really do improve performance.

For example there was a guy running an illegal engine for years. The scrutineers knew this but did nothing until someone protested it.

I think it all revolves around opinion on what is considered as the “unitary structure” Doesn’t help you but I am pleased to say I have a chassis.

I've just had a cursory side-by-side flick through of section 12 for 2006 and 2007 and I can see any changes - I may just be being thick, though.

Worth ringing the MSA for clarification?
