You do know it costs £40,000 to enter the Gumball?? The Europe Cannonball looks a lot more realistic at £4500 - still, that's a good few holiday's worth of cash.

You would need a bloody good sponsor!!! Great if you can do it though. Goldy Looking Chain (the welsh band) did it last year in a Bedford Rascal!! Not sure how far they got though.

I ran one of these events last year, I would advise people to think carefully about doing it in any old car, We were averaging over 100 for many hours across a large portion of europe mainly because that is a sensible speed on a lot of the autoroutes and autobahns, does not feel quick at all, there are few mini's that will happily sit at that speed all day without getting upset, plus at the end of the days a few of us were getting out physically tired from relatively comfy cars.

Your best bet for the cammaradery and fun is to jump on one of the italian job type events or lejog, as they are set up for older cars. A breakdown other side of the channel is far from fun!

What car did you do it in?
Mine may be old/brand new, but it is 2.0L Honda reliable. should be ok.
If i did the italian job i may get locked up for driving to fast!

See if you can get one of the major MiniMags to sponsor it.... Could make an interesting editorial article to see how a Mini (albeit a fairly bonkers one nuts ) gets on in some exotic company..... You might just have some ballast in the form of a journo/scribe. Could be a good laugh tho'

scratchchin Just a thought....

A TR6 took part in the Alpine Tour last year, covering lots of the Monte Carlo Rally roads (the sort of roads where the Mini is likely to be quicker than most). There's also got a Lamborghini Espada running this year and a few more classics sitting on the fence. It's (deliberately) not as high-profile as other rallies but it sounds like it's more suited to your car.

I did it in a 911, we also had alfa's, ferrari and a pantera, but if yours is a honda engine then i'd say its only you that will struggle for stamina not the car!

MiniMrVan - just had a look at the pic of your Mini - looks superb! Post some other pics if you can! I did the Cannonball Run a couple of years ago in a 911 Turbo (1991 model). Did it with a mate of mine - was great fun, but pretty intense, and others have said on here, we were doing a steady 100mph+ all day. We finished in the last 5 over the whole event, mainly because I didn't want to be driving at 160mph like most of the other guys! Having said all that, it was ENORMOUS fun and I'm really glad we did it. Long old drive back though....!

The more I see that, the more I fancy butchering my mini..... In fact, I think my mates 1960 one could use one of those.

Regarding silly events and silly cars, I took a very ed 3 L capri on the plymouth dakar:-

and I am about to drive:-

To mongolia. It is very very ed but has bombproof running gear.

Don't let preconceptions stand in the way of your dreams.

Red Bull are up for anything bonkers and a 160mph mini is just the ticket. Why haven't you put a blower on it?

You mini is exactly the knid of project i would love to start. Is the shell seamwelded and the roll cage also welded in. Did you do all the fabrication yourself and how difficult was it to get the engine in the back considering the lack of space. Are you using seperate subframes or is it a specially constructed chassis.

Roughly how much did you spend to get a finished mini like this and have you got detailed specs. That is the coolest mini i have seen in a very long time, it would make a great kit. Sorry to ask all the questions but i am genuinely interested. thumbup
