Mclaren Steals Design from Cooper.

25th April 2007 – Woking, Surrey

By Alfie Noakes.

In an interview today Mclaren boss Ron Dennis admited trying to buy technology that would help him circumvent the FIA’s crackdown on flexible floors.

“Yes it’s true,” said Dennis “I used to watch Tommy as a kid and loved his tricks. I particularly liked the one where he would pick up a wooden box and bang the bottom to show it was solid. Then he would put it down and pull a hundred silk scarves out of it. It was obvious the box had a moveable floor. So I’ve had my scouts out scouring the auctions, (one of them got on Antiques Roadshow) to see if they could get any of Tommy tricks for us to analyse.”

Dennis is now reported to be “resting” in nearby Brookwood Hospital, an establishment for the slightly unhinged.

I thought you were referring to John and Charles Cooper - who BRUCE McLaren drove for early in his F1 career 9and no doubt borrowed some of their ideas when he set up his own team).

That was the idea

But Ron also worked for Coopers.
