Easy Thompsons Question...How many coats?
Discussion
Depends how cold it is!!!! ha ha ha, thought i'd get in first!
I have re coloured the hood (wonderfull job- looks like new) and now put on 5 coats of Thompsons.
The stuff still soaks straight into the canvas (wonderfully satasying job to do, almost theroputic) so does it need more?
i have half the tin left so if it has enough i'll save it rather then keep putting it on but whats enough?
i poured some water on it and 80% ran of BUT 20% soaked into (not through) the roof? should it do this, i was expecting beading? am i gonna see that with more coats?

Exactly what type of Thompson's do you guys use on the roof as I need to do mine soon?
Had a look on the Thompson's web site and they seem to make dozens of types. Is it the one for leather and fabric that you all use? Remember reading somewhere that is may be the one for masonary, is that right??
Wouldn't want to cover the roof with the wrong stuff. Could be an expensive mistake!

I use Fabsil which is designed for tents & canvas etc. available from camping and outdoor shops like Blacks or Milletts. One coat a year seems to do the trick. Use the brush on not the aerosol spray as it is easier to avoid over-spray with a brush. Oh and it just wipes of paintwork no problem. Seem to remember my last can cost around £15 quid and did 2 x soft tops (the TVR and the Alfa) for a couple for years Rich...
