Air in Fuel filter

Just finished putting our rebuilt mini together with a 1275 MG Metro engine.
We're having problems with it running under higher revs and there appears to be air in the fuel filter.

there is plenty of fuel in the tank, but you can see bubbles getting into the filter and running up the pipe into the carb which is causing it to splutter.

Is there a problem with the fuel pump?

Please could you offer some advice ASAP - we're supposed to be going to Le Mans in it tomorrow!!!!!

Is it an electric pump or a mechanical one?
If it's not an electric one, maybe fitting a FACIT electric one would be a good solution. They are not expensive, come with a bolt-on filter and can be fitted under the rear seat base panel, thus pushing the fuel, not sucking it as the mech one does. Usually mech pumps are reliable, but it does sound as though some air may be getting into the system although it's hard to imagine where from as when the pump stops sucking you might expect a fuel leak to show up.
If you do fit an electric one, you can just by-pass the mech pump in the back of the block until you get the chance to fit a blanking plate later on when the manifolds can be removed.

Have you double checked all the joins in whatever pipe work you have? Maybe a turn on any jubilee clips etc may cure it? If not, then the pump has to be sucking air in internally. Which will mean a new one.
Or just avoid high revs all the time!
