hi, basically i want to own a classic scooby for the first time and was wondering if i can have some much needed help and advice on buying and what to look out for. if a scooby has over 100k on the clocks but they have paperwork to prove the engine was rebuilt or replaced and has only done 20k is that as safe as buying a low mileage one? and if there is a full service history at a reputable place i take it this helps to show its been well cared for as serving these things over a long space of time isnt cheap. plus on a rebuilt engine will the turbo and cam belt been sorted also so they will last its just i really dont want to buy a dodgy motor thats going to die after 6 months or a year but with my budget its got to be around the 97 98 year (2000 turbo model.) anyone around loughborough leicester that owns or knows about scoobs be kind enough to volunteer to looking at one or two with me to help me along? please help thanks michael

Hi newbie,

Get yourself over to Scoobynet and pop into the forum (there is even a Midlands section).

There should be someone that lives close to you that could help.

p.s. my 98 scooby is up to 95k and still on the original engine.

BIG DUNC

If you do a search on here, there are plenty of similar threads.
Basicaly they are reliable cars if they have been looked after & well serviced. However, they will have been driven hard, and they are not perfect ( as many on here will quickly point out ).
As well as scooby net, there is a good FAQ on sidc.co.uk
I have '98 turbo 2000 which is what you are after. It is just coming up to 100K on the original ( never re-built ) engine, and ( touching wood and not wanting to tempt fate ) everything seems fine with it.
There are plenty out there. Some have had a very hard life, and some will have been well cared for. Look at as many as you can, and buy on condition rather than age or milage. It sounds like you have a car in mind. I would hope that if it was quality rebuild they would have fitted a new cam belt, but if you are not sure, and you do buy the car, then get it changed for piece of mind.
