an old racing saying said:
To finish first, first you have to finish
the rally version of that saying said:
To finish first, first you must be Finnish
Except it doesn't seem to be working so well for them hehe

I'm picking a misprint in the course notes... everyone was approaching WAY too fast.

Yep, that was my thinking as well - you can actually see the co-driver of one car taking a good look at his notes while up-side down, but that may be coincidence.

I got one pace note wrong during the Targa years ago:

Ray: "You said that was an 8"

Me: "Ummm . . ."

Ray: "It was a 3 wasn't it"

Me: "Ummm . . . 400, caution, 5 left over rise . . ."

Ray: "Never mind that, It was a 3 wasn't it"

Me: "Ummm . . . Double caution, 5 left over rise . . ."

Ray: "Don't start that it was a single caution . . . Don't turn the page, It was a 3 wasn't it"

Me: "Ummm . . . 400 finish"

Ray: "Right, You're washing the car once we're in park ferme . . . and buying dinner tonight"

Maximum Attack (n) : A method of rallying derived by the Finns in the early 1980s, where cars get progressivly faster by shedding pieces of bodywork on various scenery.
