Mini Speed Signs

Never heard of them before, but if they're smaller than the standard size then AFAIK they don't legally mean anything. Of course if they have the same number as the official speed limit you could still get done for breaking it, just like you could without mini signs present. But if say they said 20 and the normal limit was 50 then they most likely wouldn't be legal IMO.
Could they have been put up by some local residents association or something? Not familiar with the area at all.
P.S. talking about speed limits, had my most pathetic speed camera fine yet the other day - $30 for doing 56 km/h through Palmerston (small town on SH1 north of Dunedin). They must really be desperate to get their stats up. Might request the photo just for fun.

Should probably have mentioned that they were the correct speeds, perfectly proportioned, reflectorized, and professionally installed with stainless-steel mounting straps (not el-cheapo cable-ties 
)Not sure that the regulations 'specify' any sizes for legal compliance, possibly just specify sizes for maintenance contractor compliance ???
Might need to find an excuse to visit a Transit NZ contractor tomorrow
