do you have to take the disc off to remove the shield?
or can you do it without. (btw i have no intention of putting them back on lol.
any advice would be great.

They're attached to the caliper bolt arent they?

I binned mine years ago so recollection is somewhat hazy.

If you don't intend re-fitting them, just un-bolt them and cut/bend them until they come off. Useless things IMHO.

The worst thing is when you get a small stone trapped betwen the shield and the disc. It sounds as though the entire front hub is about to fall to pieces!
Rally preparation on a Mini was always 'Fit Sump Guard, Remove Disc shields', followed by all the other stuff. Not having them gives better brake cooling as well.
