I'll admit I never even knew these existed until the other day when one drove past me. I had to do a comedy double-take.... "Oh, that's a nice S15, wonder if it's a turb...wait a minute, where's the roof...what's that badge on the back...vario-something..." biggrin

Really, really nice looking car, I want one. yum

Here's a pic for those who haven't seen it:

BTW, the one in the pic has had an SR20DET conversion. evil

SR20DET conversion? Weren't they SR20DET from the factory, or did the varietta only ahve an SR20 (non-turbo).

Some angles they look nice, some angles they, um, don't.

From the factory, they're SR20DE only (according to s15oc.com).

if they had been turbo from the factory, they would have been great.

with the SR20, its just a better-looking 307CC / Eos competitor.

with RWD and a decent chassis (assuming it isn't too compromised by losing the lid)

Gravelben, thats true, but it also weighs as much as a supertanker, so its strictly a cruiser.

not too nice as standard, but there's some lovely bits and bobs that transform them into a great looking car.
SR20DET conversion makes them a bit fruity too from what I've read of that car's previous owners postings, not my cup of tea but certainly a bit unique and can see the appeal of them. Beats various other boring convertibles like the celica and the like imo smile

I'm not sure I like it to be honest. Like the hardtop version better, (Hmmm...spec-r!)

Yep, they were SR20DE equipped out of the factory.

Not my cup of tea looks wise, the front is fine but the back is too long. I'm generally not a fan of convertibles that were originally designed as a non convertible car, S15, 350Z, Celica... All lose something by going convertible.

However, there was a vid posted on SXOC the other day of a Varieta drifting, and it was mad! Something about drifting a car with the roof down is really very cool! smile

Yup,
Varetta has the DE (none turbo engine) from standard and it's a bit of a wiring nightmare to convert them to turbo. They do weigh a bloody ton on paper but i can't comment on how they drive because i have never driven one. I would be interested to see how they handle compared to my S14 and S15.

Cool car though.

Damn sexy car, would be the car for me to get if I got a convertible again. Would have to do a SR20DET engine conversion though.
