Legacy Spec B vs Impreza WRX
Discussion
I put my Legacy Spec B Sports Tourer in for a service over the weekend and had an '07 WRX as a courtesy car.
I've not driven an Impreza before. The WRX felt pretty different to the Spec B, a lot tinnier, lighter and noisier and from inside the view through the windscreen made me think of plastic bolt on panels Personally I felt very conspicuous with the bonnet scoop and Prodrive spoiler compared to the understated, debadged, Q car-esque Spec B. Performance wise I didn't think there was much in it. I was really surprised at how little I noticed the turbo in the WRX, the car picking up at around 3500rpm exactly the same as the normally aspirated Legacy and I couldn't hear any turbo whistles or wastegates. Getting back in the Spec B afterwards brought home the luxury and creature comforts. On the move the Spec B felt slower up to 3500rpm but from then on it felt as quick and could go higher into the rev range. Overall I'd pick a WRX as a fun track day car (and tune it up ) but I'd pick the Spec B for a day-to-day car.

I dont think there would be much in it to be honest the SpecB has 240-250 bhp and 220lb/ft torque, the impreza has 220-230 bhp and 230lb/ft torque.
The legacy with the 3.0 litre 6 cylinder boxer is a good engine if i had the cash i would like a legacy as a family car and convert my impreza for fast road/track use only.

Good plan. Although I'd fancy an Atom. The legacy with the 3.0 litre 6 cylinder boxer is a good engine if i had the cash i would like a legacy as a family car and convert my impreza for fast road/track use only.
Enjoyed the WRX, just expected more of a turbo kick. If anything it highlighted how good the Spec B is. It can be a great 4x4 A-B weapon or comfy cruiser.

Of coarse, if you took the 3.0 litre flat six and put 2 turbos on it..
