Mirror controls
Discussion
May be a muppet question, but...
I have a 98 450 and the mirror controls are in the door pocket area. It is alluminium or steel and has 2 buttons, one for left, one for right and the big button to actually move the mirror.
Problem - no matter what mittor button I press, the drivers on moves. I cannot get the left one to move at all. Its just not "selecting" the left one.
Anyone had this or able to suggest anything? Hoping its not a chip or anything on the underside of the controls.
Regards

Sounds familiar - I had the same problem, except that only the passenger one would move. I took the door skin off to fix an enlarged hole on the speaker mounting and when I reconnected everything it almost worked. I suspect it was a loose connection to the board. Of course, my drivers side mirror still only moves in 3 directions, but that's another day's problem...
The mirror adjuster is a single PCB with a single terminal block for all connections. The mirror control unit in mine was at the very front of the drivers-side door, wrapped in bubble-wrap (I had a rummage around to see what was in the door while I was in there).
So the problem has to occur in the drivers-side door, as long as your drivers side mirror is always adjusted: either the switch is defective, there's a loose connection to the control unit, or the control unit's unhappy.
Whip off the door skin and have a play - a voltmeter (or at least continuity checker) might be handy.
I put a fairly extensive post in Slow Electric Windows! about taking off the door skin, or else just consult the bible.
