Can't comment on the car, but I can comment on Fernhurst. They get my vote everytime, great bunch of Guys.

The problem may not be what’s worn but what has not been used.
The general consensus of opinion is that Tiv's are better if driven regularly mine likes being driven everyday, and who am I to argue.
I brought my 98 Chim from Fernies in Oct 2002 with 10375 on the clock.
I have driven it most days since purchase.
I have encountered a couple of minor problems, Hot start problem = new starter motor, and a small leak in the rad = new rad, both done under warranty.
Had a 12K service done and a few other pretty things.
But all in all I’m loving every minute.
Nothing may go wrong with the car if you purchase it. But without a doubt something WILL defiantly go wrong with it, it's a TVR.
You can only hope and pray that it's nothing major and if it is it's hopefully covered under the warranty.
Buying a TVR needs a little bit of Gut feel, which in my case was non-existent, as I hadn't owned one before.
So would I buy private next time...not sure I got the confidence yet.
But in the mean time Fernies can look after me.

And if they are, you got a year to sort it out on warranty.
But there is the chance that your car would spend more time back at the dealers being fixed under warranty!(unlikely I know!)
I had a look at Fernhursts when I was buying and whilst I didn't buy through them (found one private, inspected by Rob Ingleby - very happy! ) they were helpful and friendly and, were they to have had a suitable car I think I would have bought through them.
The other thing with warranties is that they can be limitied in scope/value of work.
All IMHO of course!
Bought my 98S Chim 500 from Fernies a year ago. 17,000 on the clock, but had not been used much in the year before I bought it. The battery died within a week, the aircon system (I notice the one you're looking at has this) had a leaking condenser and had to be stripped down and seals replaced, the starter died within a couple of months, and it needed a new clutch master cylinder. Over a grand's worth of work to fix all this, but covered by the warranty (see my profile). All work was done promptly with no argument - excellent service, and the car has run like a dream ever since.
Unless they've had very recent attention, I would say the battery and the air-con are highly likely to give you problems if the car has been under-used. It's also worth systematically checking that all the electrical gear works properly and make sure they agree to fix any gremlins before you buy.

At £24k and 6,000 miles I would not touch it - much better value elsewhere. As said earlier, these cars like to be driven - why not find one with 30k'ish on the clock and save yourself a packet.
I bought mine privately two and half years ago for £16,500 - R reg, 32k on the clock at the time, nothing serious has gone wrong with it and it has only let me down once (flat battery 'cause I left the lights on). I rest my case and no it's not for sale.

While I accept that the asking price is over the odds, this is my first TVR and as such, I guess, I am willing to take the hit to get a car from a well recommended dealer and have it prepped to my liking from the word go.
They were not willing to move much on the price (or I was not forceful enough to move them ). However they were willing to "throw in" ALL the extras that I wanted.
So, assuming that the car will fit in my garage, I should be picking up the car in a couple of weeks time!

Sorry, that smile will be stuck on for a while yet!
The wife and I took the car out for over 90 mins driving it through most types of road and traffic. Even managed to experience our first "hot start" problem
The turn of speed is something to behold!
Cannot say that the passenger foot well is a nice place for feet, but we will get used to it.
Mind you, given that the wife and I both like driving it but are not too keen on being passengers in it .... Might just have to save up and buy another one!
Sure hope it fits in the garage ... If not, I'll just have to move house!

If they've agreed to fit all the bits you want then go for a complete set of leven bits in the cockpit. Also get the starter motor replaced. If you've already had a hot start problem then it isn't going to get any better. Get a full major service so ALL filters and consumables are replaced including gearbox and diff oils. A new battery would make sense too, even if the current one appears fine. Trust me, if the car's been sitting for ages it won't be for long. The mileage is too low for many people's liking, I do more than that in one year and mine's a second car - TVRs like to be used and punish you if they aren't. But if the car is 'brought back into life' carefully it should be fine.
