griff 500 HC, what revs are safe?
Discussion
hi all, just picked up my griff yesterday and still got a huge smile on my face. my question is what is a safe rev limit when planting your foot on the floor and using the box. i live in milton keynes and the short stretches of duel carriageways between roundabouts (yes there are a few in mk)is sheer bliss for giving the car the old acceleration test ( all within the speed limit officer). funniest thing last night on the way home from picking it up was the spotty herbert in his souped up `hot hatch` who steamed round a roundabout and virtually scrapped the paint off the back of the griff as he tried to straight line the r/a and pull past me as i exited it. i was just minding my own business at that point, but the sight of him hunched over the wheel pulling alongside made me smile-heh heh heh, you can probably guess the rest , DON`T think hell mess with a griff again byebye
Whatch out for those bloody speed cameras in MK there was one on the A5 near the turn off for central MK today. If you want to give your griff a good blast why not meet up with the Mk TVR crew and come to our monthly meeting at Northampton, next meet is on Thurs 12th at the Queen Eleanor Hotel. Check out the Northants web site for directions, hope you can make it. Keep smiling.
rev limiter?, i didn`t know the car had one, it has cream coloured dial faces, i don`t think there`s a red line marked, just the numbers. what happens when the limiter kicks in? i was a bit concernd having read a thread re a damaged engine whilst at a garage and someone uggested it had been over reved (possibly by said garage)
Mine a 96 is just under 6000 and it throws you forward in your seat, not alot but noticeable as the engine is gagging. I have only hit a few times nad they were when i first got it it as i didnt realise how quick i was getting up the rev range
Like Apache said there isnt much more after 5k so it makes sense to change just after.

I've had mine a month and the grin keeps getting bigger. I was advised not to take it over 3000 rpm until the temperature gets up to 90. This can mean no overtakes on the M25 on the first 10 minutes,
Get yourself a load of mobile 1 and really do check the oil every couple of days if you're using it daily. I used over a litre in the first 2 weeks, but that was cos I'd driven a 1000 miles - couldn't get out of the thing..

Griffy - remember that the guage is only an indication of water temperature. You want the engine temperature including the oil to be up before you floor it. Most engines take nearer 20 minutes to warm right through, and you're right to go steadily up to 3000 until the needle starts moving into usual operating range.
(The V8 warm up routine is nowhere near as critical as the S6 engine though.)
