After someone somewhere else on PH mentioning the MR2 Turbo - I suddenly thought it may be a solution to my search...

And then I saw this ad, which theorectically could be the ideal track-day car... but I couldnt help feel, erm, less than confident, considering its supposed to be a trader, with the spelling language, and the look as if the car hasnt been through an eSVA!

It's a '94 and therefore doesn't require an esva test; an MoT is all it needs prior to registration. It should involve little more than fitting a foglight and speedo face.

I wouldn't buy it on the basis that its probably been thrashed to death.

Don't see the problem with it tbh....? Its obviously been modified in Japan, but if you know what your looking for, dont see why it shouldnt make a good track car...

Lets face it. Most sports cars will have been thrashed at some point, or more likely, for most of their life. Why would someone buy a sports car, (spending the extra purchase price, extra insurenace, extra servicing costs, extra fuel, extra tyres etc ) and then drive it round slowly? I know some do, but most drive it like it was intended. What is important is whether or not the previous owners looked after it, let it warm up / cool down properly, had it properly serviced etc. If it has been looked after, does it matter that its been driven hard?
Also, if you are going to use it as a track car ( which it looks well suited to ) you are going to drive it hard as a matter of routine, so what difference will it make whether or not the last guy did?

My MRT displayed evidence of being modified in Japan and returned to standard(ish) for import to Blighty.

It was the most unreliable car I've ever owned.

The details seem scant, i'd be interested to know what mods its running for 300bhp.

In fact, seeing as Im quite close, I'm tempted to go and kick its tyres.
