Considering an evo IX (only FQ300 or 320) and am wondering what the running costs will be for 12,000 miles p.a. I know insurance will be high and fuel will be a problem but what about servicing and tyres etc?

Cheers

http://www.lancerregister.com/mlr_runningcostcalcu...

have a play around with that, will be a rough guide only I would have thought..

can't tell you about mine , only had it a few months and have just 5000 miles on it..

servicing costs can be reduced a fair bit by using an idependant specialist and will keep any warranty intact.. all the info you need is on the MLR have a look on the forums etc..

cheers

are all evo's this bad for servicing (e.g. Evo7 / 8)

..and why is it the case.. it's just a turbo'd four, in the more standard versions producing no more than many other cars with turbo fours, that don't need the crazily frequent servicing.. what's so special about the evo lump?

they are squeezing an awful lot of power out of a 2.0 4-cylinder engine... and i think the servicing is mainly oil changes, checking strain etc..

But your right - my 1.8 4-pot turbo with 225bhp goes 20k/2 yr between services. The new S3 has 280bhp from a 2.0 Turbo, with similar services.

Doesnt the scooby do 12k with same power/cc ?

Only done about 6000 miles in ours so just had the one service so far. Think it cost about £150, although it is mainly an oil change.

To replace tyres I reckon around £150 each. Obviously ours hasn't gone through a set of tyres ... yet!

As said about 20 mpg.

The transmission is the thing that requires the 4500 services. RS models, which have a more traditional 4wd system, have longer intervals.

And yes, they all cost the same to run from about Evo 5 onwards

Its a 4500 mile service from the IV onwards not the V and its the AYC unit that needs it as previously posted the RS has a different diff set up

Yes, although this is only the newer models, the older ones are every 6 months or 7.5k IIRC!

Evo running cost have always been the major killer for me. I could do with four seats rather than the two of the 350Z, but whilst the Evo ticks a great many boxes, it's just too expensive really...

And whilst it's not a huge issue, compared to a tastfully sorted Scooby, it does sound a little bit too much like an overgrown Qualcast for mesmile

is fuel economy really that bad on them?! The only turbocharged car ive owned is a GT4 (ST205) and that would get me in the region of 25-30 mpg (my daily commute is 30 miles, mostly motorway so 50-70mph depending on traffic

currently running a 350z and thats sitting on 26mpg average which isnt bad considering the size of the engine!

In reality, with my motorway commute, I average 25mpg. With hard use, it'll drop to half that.
