Mines an auto and I've driven a manual a few times and I didn't notice any real difference. I didn't think I would like an auto and I was going to change it to a manual but I haven't bothered as I quite like the auto.

The condition of the car is far more important than if it's manual or auto in my opinion.

You do get slightly more MPG out of a manual compared to an auto frown

I may have a 4 speed going spare (just need to find a five speed first!)driving

Anyway, plenty of spares to change it to a manual i'd have guessed- & very cheaply too

I bought an auto with every intention of converting it to manual but to be honest the big lazy essex engine really suits the auto box so i never did bother. Now have a different car with a 5 speed manual and yes you can urge it on a bit more but i kind of miss the auto.

if you want a manual--->buy a manual..its not even worth thinking about it to convert an automatic to a manual, as there are too many cars on the market which you can choose from.

also in my opinion the automatic suits well the essex engine. there is enough torque. the scimitar is a "cruiser" and not a "nervous" sports-car.

the only thing you need to check is if the kickdown works (often the kickdown cable is disconnected...whyever...maybe the owners changed the carb to a manual chocke-type and there wasnt the linkage to connect the kickdown cable..stupid owners!!)

in general: if an automatic gearbox is well maintained its more reliable than a manual with overdrive (gearboxes themselves are more less undestroyable but the overdrive could fail).
