Apologies are in order to other Griff owners. For the third time in the last 2 weeks I have been challenged by a lesser car and yielded. This time it was a Vauxhall Vectra SD/GTI/etc.

*30mph on the M20, leaving him in the distance I decided again, as I have several times recently, that just because I can does not mean I will. I eased off and he passed me at about *10mph.

So "sorry" because I must be spawning a whole load of "I burnt up a Griffith" stories but sometimes I just cannot be arsed to fight the fight with a 20 year-old in a repmobile. I must be getting old!

Nah he knows you were far quicker - everyone knows what a TVR means so dont worry. Save those moments of naughty madness for when there's real fun to be gained!

Like laughing as you pass him on the hard shoulder where he has been pulled over for speeding

Exactly. See if you can time it so he gets the red mist just before a speed camera - you brake and bingo - £60 out of Jack the Lad's blue neon budget...

Had a similar thing with a Subaru Imprezza WRX STI P1 Prodrive jobbie a couple of nights ago.

Right up my chuff till about *25, I thought this was getting silly so pulled over. I was very nearly tempted to drop it a gear and see what he could do (no doubt they are a fast motor) but what would that prove.

Discretion and all that...

WRX P1's are very quick. Pretty well matched against my 4.3 accelerating from 40 to 80(ish). I decided it wasn't worth trying for any faster in a 60 NSL. That one started driving like a pansy once it got twisty though.....

To be honest it is always tempting but never really worth it.

Exactly. You don't need to show off if you're in a TVR - nothing to prove. Be content with the thought 'I could thrash your car if I wanted to, but I'm not in the mood.'

I haven't got a Griff yet, but I'm planning to fit an override to the brake light for this very reason.

Good enough for me. If you take the plunge and get a Griff, post it here - I need an excuse to drive up to Leyburn (my father lives there) - and I'll be glad to buy you a beer if you are nearby.

'I'm planning to fit an override to the brake light for this very reason.'

And an off-switch for the rear lights so they can't hang on to your tail lights after dark... use both just before sharp bend...
