Any ideas prefer something japanese or german.

p.s is there alot of difference between the 1.8 vti-s and the type -r:confused

i would suggest a nissan pulsar vzr(165ish bhp) or vzr-n1(200+bhp) they were made between 1996 and 2000 its basically a three door almera hatch with a different badge on it. the vzr-n1 is the one you want uber rare though they are still the most powerful 1.6 car out the factory ever made by anybody.

or maybe a toyota levin bzr again 1996 to 2000 175bhp standard.

both cars are very reliable the levin's got a six speed box and both cars are 1600cc dohc's.

i understand where your coming from insurance wise cause its even worse over here in ireland!!! i have an ek9 type r civic (98 spec) there is a fair bit of difference between them and the vti's of the same year, 25bhp difference in standard form and also benifits from better suspension, interior, breathing, etc etc etc.... but the price for these in england is very inflated if you were thinking of one of these you'd be better off coming over to ireland, better choice and a hell of a lot cheaper!!!

hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions on the above or anything honda

I wouldnt say a Civic saloon is really very prestige?

if you want something fun, why not an MR2 GTi (mk2 model).

if you want something prestige, get an old 520i BMW...

Can you really afford the insurance on these sort of cars at 19?

I think you will be terrified when you get insurance quotes...unless you are willing to pay >£2000 (why?)

how bad is a BMW 316i compact on insurance?

Insurance may be an issue but it depends how much you want a certain car.
i bought this when i was 20

and insurance was £1600 but i wanted the car so payed the money.

most sporty numbers are gonna set you back a bit so you either pay up or drive a vectra or something cheap until youve built up expeiriance and NCD.

good luck whatever you go for.

unless you had a NCB since you learnt to drive, you were very lucky.

it could also be a 3litre non turbo to be honest, neither are very good though if fact very poor, otherwise everyone would be driving one rather than skylines and supra's

Have you ever driven one, or a supra or a skyline!!

Ive owned all three as well as most other turboed jap motors (exept an NSX and integra dc5 frown )

The GTO was a twin turbo and was insured with tescos on 3 yrs NCB.cat1 security and a Tracker and living in a good area.
The GTO is not built as an out and out sports car like a skyline etc .its a sports tourer like the 300zx.
However its only real downside was slightly soggy handling. I uprated my suspension with Tein's and hammered many skylines and supras round A rds, roundabouts etc. Once you remove the restrictor form the boost solonoid it frees up alot more power too and it will easily waste alot of cars.

Anyway this is going off topic.
my point was i wanted the car so i payed the money.
If you cant afford the insurance on something then simply you have to find the money or not have it.
Thats why i asked what money he had for insurance. If its alot then he could have whatever and if its a few hundred quid then its a micra smile ...well it is japanese at least smile

ST205 GT4's are cheap to insure. Especially a uk car! Many people on the owners club are 19 with them. I've had my import since I was 20, I had 2 years NCB and a fault claim, and got TPFT insurance for £1040 with all mods declared.

Not sure I want this guy driving one though, might tarnish the image smile

Then surely it's up to the 1st driver to decide which car they want best? surely?

Unless you're purporting to commit insurance fraud buy pretending to be merely a named driver whereinfact you're the main one.

Likely. And it is well-known by insurance companies now, so they may (1) not pay out in the event of any incident (2) let the police know that you were willingly driving without adequate insurance.

So, someone else will be doing more mileage on the car than you then?
