Hi all,

I have a TVR V8S which uses the classic chrome Mini headlamps. As standard, the headlights are pretty dire and there's a wiring kit available to provide more power to the bulbs.

I wondered if there's been any advances in after-market Mini headlamp 'cones' (whatever the correct term is) that you chaps know of.

At a classic car show at Shepton Mallet a few years ago there was a bloke selling replacement headlamps but they would not pass an MOT so would have to be swapped each year.

I'm looking for a fully approved replacement.

Any ideas?

Cheers!

For a cheapy replacement, a set of Wipac units are pretty good value for money - about £30 for a pair I think. They take standard H4s and are a big improvement over the old sealed beam units, but the beam pattern is a bit hit-and miss in some spots.

The Cibie ones are much better, but expect to pay twice as much for them as you would for the Wipacs.

Are these the same ones that Pies above is pointing to on eBay? They are Wipac.

Have you fitted those to your V8 then Colin?

If the Cibie ones aren't road legal then I won't fit them.

Not the Cibie units that are illegal, it's the wattage of the bulbs.
Cibie light unit has a MUCH better beam pattern than the wipacs and if you are doing the job the extra cost is worth it

once you have the H4 bulbs in place you can try the HID units , they get mixed reviews but I have seen them on a friends car and they seem good.

They work very well as long as you are sitting behind them, rather than driving a car towards them!

What is this HID stuff? (Simple answers please)

Is it an improvement over my 130 Watters?

I want the night roads to be like daytime when I go for a hoon.
