thinking of buying a lancer evo 6
Discussion
im looking at buying a mitsubishi lancer evo 6 hopefully. i am currently driving an 03 plate black honda civic type r which i will be looking to sell to generate most of my funds if not all for the car.
this post is basically to find out if people have owned them what they are like to live with and run costs and also if anyone has any offers or knows of any un-modded or very slightly (dump valve and minor mods! non cosmetic) modification cars for sale. if you are looking at selling your own evo 6 and would consider a px for a civic type r then also let me know.
anyway i look forward to seeing the information that people have.

IIRC the RS doesn't have AYC but you might want to get that confirmed.
Edit - is say here that the EVO 6 RS does not have AYC

I wouldnt bother with the RS...they were designed for people to buy and turn in to race cars hence they just have a bog standard Lancer interior and dont come with the mahoooosive Brembo's the GSR has. They also only come with steal wheels...thats all assuming you found a stock standard one.
Lots of poeple bang on and on about how AYC removes the driving experience or make it like driving a computer game. I call BS on it...go drive an AYC equipped Evo and tell me you DONT like the levels of grip and the silly cornering speeds and outrageous 1 handed angles of dangle you can get...not that I condone that kind of tom foolery of course
Running costs can be disgusting but that also depends on how its driven and how many miles you do...I hear horror stories of people saying it costs them £12,000/year with all the clutches and tyres and brakes they eat but then you probe further and find out its their daily driver as well as doing trackdays every other week.

I have the EVO6 RS2 version... there are only a few around so you'll have to look hard for one. But basically its best of both worlds. They come with uprated brakes, (not that the stock RS brakes are crap by the way - and its probably something you'd upgrade anyhow over time)..... but they also come with elec windows and a decent level of interior.
I have driven most types of EVO6 before I chose the one I have now... the GSR with its AYC was not for me.... it will be true that for an average driver the AYC allows you to drive at the limit easier, but I found it to be interfering with my driving style and knew I wouldn't be able to live with it.
The RS diff is a more agressive diff in terms of how it bites the road... it also allows you to slide the car at all sorts of angles. So if you see yourself as a bit of a Tommi Makkinen then go for either the RS or RS2 versions.
Also depends on how you will be driving the car and what you want out of it. The GSRs are better for motorway driving as they have a longer gear box ratio than the RS versions. But the RS versions are built for pure acceleration and ultimate handling. Like mentioned already they are the base car for turning into Group 'n' rally machines.
Go and test drive a few, its the only way you will appreciate the differences.
But you won't be dissapointed if you chose any version of EVO6 to be fair... as long is it is in good condition.
