Monaro maybe....
Discussion
Hello all. Been lurking for a bit...
Okay I think I want a Ls2 6 litre Monaro. So how thirsty is it really? I currently run a Mitsubishi 3000gt as my daily driver and I reckon at worst I get about 13mpg, best 28mpg. How does this compare?
Also when did the Ls2 hit the showrooms? The reason I ask is I'm dinnea want to pay Gordon £400 a year road tax. I'd rather pay £200, so the car needs to be pre 23/3/06. Will this be problem?
Thanks in advance.

mine is about as new as you can get so maximum remaining warranty but with the bonus of cheaper road tax!
mine is used daily, mix of b roads, a roads and city ring-road traffic and i get 21mpg regular as clockwork, up to 27 tho on a longer journey. Worst ive seen is 17-18 in town.

My average, for 6000 miles in the VXR, is 19.8mpg. Worst trip was 12 through heavy traffic; best was/is regularly 25 on dual carriageway and motorway. Best ever was 2.8mpg - uphill and flat out for about 1/2 mile! I tried hard for that, but still averaged nearly 20 on that tankful. CV8 was similar, perhaps slightly worse.
Have to say that on both cars, Wortec remap and exhaust gave about 2mpg better than standard.

Best (fastest) colour too
Just while we are talking about fuel consumption. I picked up my CV8 VZ with pipe and remap on Sunday and on the first journey home (Cambridgeshire to Hampshire mostly using busyish M11,M25 and M3 @ 50 to 70 mph) returned a staggering 30.8 MPG. Next day returned 29.7 at normal motorway speeds with a bit of town work thrown in on a trip form hants to kent and back. Before buying the car I would have been pleased with 25 mpg so I was well chuffed. It also shut up all the doom and gloom merchants who thought I was mad buying a big V8!

Too bad they don't base the road tax on when it was made. You'll be able to get a 6.0 VXR in the lower road tax bracket.
You can, if it was first reg b4 23/3/06.
My 05 CV8 was reg'd 21/3/06 and is 200 squid tax
Hmmmm. Not sure you correctly read my post.
I don't see what's to misinterpret, you stated "You'll be able to get a 6.0 VXR in the lower road tax bracket." and I said that you can, if it was first reg b4 23/3/06, and as 6.0 VXR's are 05 models .......
Thanks for your replies guys. It seems the Monaro isn't any worse on the juice than my 3000Gt, so that's a relief. One other quick question, do the wing mirrors fold in? I see from the specs the Monaro is exactly the same width as the 3000Gt and I can only get the GT in my garage if I fold the mirrors in, so folding mirrors are essential.
So........anyone interested in buying a 3000Gt?

30mpg, are you having a laugh ?! I have an 06 CV8 and on a motorway run the best I ever get is 26mpg. Around town I get about 17mpg and combined (motorway, b-roads & a-roads) is around 20mpg if you take it easy. If you boot it consumption averages about 14mpg. Fuel tank holds about 65 litres which gets me about 250 miles.
You may average 30mpg from a 2 litre petrol but not a 6.0! I also pay £400/year tax so really you're looking at a 55-plate to pay the lower bracket.
