Thinking of XJR - what spec changes when?
Discussion
Evening chaps, I'm after a new motorway hack to complement the Tiv and Rangie, and as wifey is dithering despite offering her the moon on a stick, I thought I'd just get on a get something I want for a change
The thread about engines and so on has been most helpful, but in terms of the V8 XJR (erm... old shape... not new one.... not up on the model numbers just yet!) I was wondering what was standard / optional, and what changed over the model years? The reason is a shorted budget of £7-10k seems to be capable of reaching everything from a low mileage 1998 to a higher mile 2001.
To put it into perspective, considering my wife will occasionally use for a work hack, reversing sensors would be handy, heated seats would be required by us both, navigation would be useful (is it actually any cop, or shall I stick with TomTom on my phone?), did any get xenons (or are the tiny standard lights actually good?), and so on?
The only obvious options I can spot would be the brembo and split wheel upgrades, not sure about the rest.
Appreciate the help.

from memory navigation/heated seats were standard from 2002 right at the end of production, the navs not really worth having tho...
reverse sensors can be retrofitted and most other things (leather, elec seats, climate control,CD) were standard from the start. 2001 onwards will avoid the whole 'nikasil' issue but most cars are sorted now anyway.
eta: xenons were never available not even as an option, the standard lights are fine really...

Cheers Matt, most helpful. I had figured the Nav was a bit nasty, so wasn't really looking for it, but the rest would be handy! Am I right in thinking the in-built phone is the same as would have been fitted to my old 1999 XK8 - IE GSM only? Can these be converted to Bluetooth, or should I just retrofit a complete Nokia BT kit?
TBH the spec changes don't really matter. More importantly you need to make sure you buy the right car as a wrongun could cost you big bucks. Have a look at Broadbean747's buyers guide thread - all the info you need is in there.
MY recommendation would be a post 2001 model if they're about in your budget - most of the problems were sorted out by then.
