If I have the indicator on and I make a turn the indicator is not going
off. I know there is a clip at the outer end of the steering collom that
must do the job and this is in place/

Doe maybe anyone know what can cause the problem that this doesn't work?

If it's anything like the one used on Spitfires and 2000s it's probably just miss-aligned slightly.

Take the cowlings off and you may be able to see it/the 'wrong' end of the indicator stalk and see what's what. At a guess the clip will have been pushed too far down the column and is now missing the reset arms on the indicator stalk.

I have checked everything and taking the cowlings of.
The clip is in place and everything seems ok.

I have given the steering colum a turn and the cancellerclip goes by the
resetarms of the indicator stalk. When I turn back the cancellerclip hardly touches the resetarms so the indicator stalk stays in place.

Can it be that the resetarms on the indicatorstalk wear and get shorter through the years?

You will probably find you have to loosen the indicator switch and move it towards the steering column so it all works. The self cancelling parts don't wear out, but everything moves over the years.
