Hiya Pistonheads ,

Am a newbie to the site. In Uni studying automotive engineering at coventry. I'm looking to buy a classic mini. my dream model would be 1993 Mini 1.3 in Tahiti Blue!!. I know alot about mini and volkswagen golf's mk 1-3. Worked as a mechanic during the summer so pretty clued up and going to start working for a racing team from March during weekends. Anyone got any tips they could pass on to me?, what to look out for when buying a mini etc...etc.

hi mate im pretty new to it all to but when looking for a mini check for rust more than anythink i.e under the doors, sills in and out , skuttle , under windscreen, behind side idicators, rear and front subframes, wear a glove and check under arches, boot lid and boot floor pan, A panles and preferably take some body with a bit of mini knowledge and take it for a spin first cus you will either love it or hate it. they handle like a dream and go like billio but you feel every bump, stone and conture in the road, you will hear and feal every beat that the engine makes it says AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA at 70mph. luckily if you have mechanical knowledge it will be a breeze fixing all the intermitant problems that WILL occure, if this sounds like your kind of car go for it , you will be smiling from ear to ear evry time you plant your ass in the driving seat.

your mini will be a head turner no matter what, everyone watches you go by with a smile on thier face and best of all you will be in the mini family, if you brake down and another mini goes by, they will come bak to help you, this happend to me on sunday when i lost my indicators (intermitant promblem) a mini shot past tooting his horn as i was checking my fuses, he came bak to help god bless him and even my wife and kids said "wow look another mini". 100percent fun and excitment guarenteed. gud luck mate have fun with the race team..neale..

this is what i bought for £675 i hav spent a further £1000 plus on her but she was a bargain

these are pics b4 my spacers went on

ive put my new wheels on now, and had to fit extra long studs and spacers (10mm) and beat my front arches for clearance. the rear is now wider than the front and looks great but may be illegal due to a 26mm over hang past the plastic arches so monty carlos on the rear and standards on the front is required.it was to dark for pics so ill post them tomoro she looks phat now and handles so well now heheee.
