Seriously considering one of these beasties at the moment, looking for a late 96/97 model probably.

Had a quick look on the Roger Clark motorsport website and their servicing costs look very fair, so it shouldn't cost me the earth to keep running (heavy right food aside).

Was just wondering if there was anyone on here with experience with them, any tips other than the usual buyers guide stuff, any shouts of 'don't do it!' and whether I should consider cars from both dealers and private sellers as a lot of people tend to recommend privately owned cars as they've got some history here, but with a good importer I should be able to get a warranty for a bit more piece of mind.

Being an STi, would I need to get it remapped for the fuel, or should Tesco 99/Optimax be ok?

Thanks chaps.

You should be ok on 99 or V power, get the Airflow meter checked.

Go for it, they are great cars!

make sure it is a MY97 onwards.. the earlier car has mainly lower spec.. easy way to tell is that it has HT leads.. the early car are coil on plug.

The 97/98 maf are bomb proof, the 99 and 00 tend to fail regular..

As V says the car should be fine on vpower or tesco99..
as long as the car is pretty standard.. try and get one with the original air box on and not an induction kit..

All I can think of at this time of night

Cheers guys, will bear that in mind about the 97 models, did they not change to HT leads when the facelift was done in late 96? Or was it another minor change they did for 97?

I definitely want as near standard as possible, WRC Car Sales seem to have a couple of nice ones in, bit of a hike from me, but there are plenty of other ones around when I get the money together and start looking in earnest.
